Virus SW 121 EASA Type Certified CS-LSA
The Virus SW 121 is the most advanced CS-LSA class airplane with full Type Certificate from EASA! Features dual glass cockpit, full-featured 2-axis digital autopilot, air brakes for enhanced descent and is certified for towing with the optional glider-towing equipment. The certified engine and certified propeller offer excellent performance, short take-off and landing and high cruise speed. Low consumption and the use of mogas lower the operating costs and offer extreme range at small cost! The Virus SW 121 offers a complete package of excellent performance and NAV/COM/GPS glass cockpit avionics.
The Virus SW 121 is based on the popular award winning Virus SW 100 in a 600 kg MTOW configuration with a 100 hp Rotax certified engine, auto-pilot and with dual Garmin G3X glass cockpit and a large number of small enhancements that makes this aircraft the best in its category.
Ideal for Flight Schools
The Virus SW 121 is EASA Type Certified with no limitations. In fact it's even approved for Intentional Spins ! It's equipped for Night VFR and for IMC training and with full dual controls. This allows a Flight School to do all the training on the same aircraft for AB Inito training for both PPL and CPL Licenses.
When you then add, that this aircraft is very low on maintenance with its Rotax 912 engine (with TBO of 2000 hours) and all-carbon composite airframe (no corrosion) and that it has a low fuel consumption of 18 liters/hour (MOGAS RON 95), then you can see why this aircraft is ideal for a flight school.
With the Virus SW 121 you avoid having one (cheaper) aircraft for the initial training and another aircraft for the more complex things such as IMC and spins.
Travel with 135 kts (250 km/h) and a low fuel consumption of just 18 liters/hour (MOGAS)
What is good for a flight school is also good for private use. When you then add that the Virus SW 121 cruises 135 kts (250 km/h) and burns only 18 liters of 95 RON MOGAS (normal 95 oct unleaded car gas), then you can see that it's great for travelling too !
This corresponds to 7,2 liters per 100 km which is as good as many modern cars. The difference is that you travel with 250 km/h and you travel directly and avoid any traffic congestions (and it's much more fun !).
The range distance of 1189 km (642 nm and with 30 minutes reserve) lets you cover a good part of Europe without stops.
NASA awarded performance
With a ground roll of just 160 meters and a takeoff distance over 15 m obstacle of 320 meters the Virus SW 121 can operate from almost any airfield. The Flaps and Air Brakes ensure that you can land securely on short runways.
The Virus SW 121 can operate from airfields as high as 10.000 ft MSL and has a service cieling 16.000 ft MSL which lets you overfly terrain higher than 4500 meters (15.000 ft).
It was performance figures like these that allowed the Virus SW 80/100 to win the NASA PAV challenge in 2007 and the NASA GAT centennial challenge in 2008. The Virus SW 80/100 and thereby the Virus SW 121 have been further refined and optimized for even better performance since then.
Glider and banner towing
The Virus SW 121 can be equipped with a tow hook for glider and banner towing. It is approved for towing gliders of up to 600 kg. With gliders up to 600 kg it only needs 500 meters take off distance (over a 15 m obstacle).
The feedback from the use of the Virus SW 121 for glider towing is that even with its relatively small engine, it outperforms most other tow aircraft. The climb rate when airborne is higher. This is due to the better aerodynamics of the Virus SW 121 (it has a glide ratio of 17:1).
Better climb rate means faster aero tows and when you add the low fuel consumption and the use of normal MOGAS instead of AVGAS, then the operating costs per aero tow is considerably lower than with other aircraft.
The Night VFR package now comes as standard on all new Pipistrel Virus SW121 aircraft. This means all Virus SW121s are now certified for night VFR, perfect for training or long distance travel in your new Virus SW121.
The Virus SW 121 can be called the 300 km/h (160 kts) LSA, but it's much more than that. With a turbulence penetration speed (green arc) of 220 km/h (120 kts) and the VNE of 302 km/h (163 kts), you can take advantage of high-speed cruise even in strong turbulence. The cockpit remains quiet and comfortable throughout the flight! The Virus SW 121 has the largest flight safety margins in its category.
The Virus SW 121 comes standard equipped with a total rescue system, deployable even at maximum speeds and close to the terrain. It has already saved several lives !
Comfortable and luxurious cabin
The exclusive kevlar-reinforced safety cockpit with luxurious leather interior will keep you both comfortable and safe. You can adjust the seat position during flight using an inflatable airbag in the seat and you can also adjust the pedals position in flight. This is great to remain comfortable on these long flights.
The instrument panel is made of carbon fiber with visible-structure and is equipped with a dual Garmin G3X glass-cockpit with dual-axis GPS-driven autopilot. This leaves very little to desire !
The Virus SW 121 is a statement of our long-time philosophy that you can achieve remarkable feats without wasting energy and polluting the environment. Every aircraft is designed, manufactured and perfected in our state-of-the-art, energetically self-sufficient facility at Ajdovscina, Slovenia. Using geothermal and solar energy to power the whole production process, we are able to spare the environment 180.000 kilograms of CO2 emissions every year. By owning the new Virus SW 121 you will contribute to a better and cleaner World! Our Ecolution campaign represents Pipistrel's mission to show the World that eco-friendly, high-technology products are in fact possible and available today!

The design basis follow the strictest EASA CS-22, CS-VLA and CS-23 (sections), as well as rules applicable to ASTM-LSA and EASA LSA standards.
Part of the Pipistrel Training Package is the Virus SW121 but also the Velis Club (both certified EASA). The Velis Club is a more affordable version of Virus SW121 as it is equipped slightly differently, or to say it more accurately it’s more customizable to adapt to your budget.
The luggage compartment, wheel fairings, navigation system, strobe lights are optional and instead of having the Garmin autopilot or G3X systems (like the Virus SW121), it has the Garmin Aera 660.
Designed with fly schools and clubs in mind the idea is to make sure you only pay for what is necessary for your day-to-day operations. With the already proven engine of the Virus, the Velis Club promises high-performance aircraft with low fuel consumption and low environmental footprint.
The Velis Club is a good choice if you do not desire all the remarkable features of the Virus SW121 but would still like the well loved airframe, design and safety of a pipistrel aircraft. Although the Ballistic Parachute Recovery System is optional for this aircraft, personally we recommend it.
